Offgrid Preparation Infographic: “Fight the Bite” & Deter Mosquito Breeding
Mosquitoes suck, no pun intended. Nobody likes these obnoxious blood-suckers buzzing around during the warmer months, much less biting and leaving itchy welts. Worst of all, they can pose serious health risks due to their ability to spread diseases like malaria, dengue, zika, chikungunya, and yellow fever. Sadly, there is no way to miraculously banish every mosquito from your surrounding area, but there are plenty of ways to reduce their numbers and discourage mosquito breeding around your home.
The following infographics from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) explain the mosquito breeding cycle and show a few ways you can keep them from getting busy around your home. Some tips are obvious, like dumping out containers of standing water, but others are less so. When was the last time you got on a ladder and checked your rain gutters? Additionally, this guide explains the importance of spreading the word to your family and community, since it takes a group effort to put a serious dent in their population.
